Solar Energy Zones
We create meaningful value for the Philippine energy sector by pioneering the development of solar energy zones, which addresses the scarcity of available lands suited utility-scale solar projects.
Leading the Way For Solar Energy
Our newly incorporated subsidiary Solar Energy Zones Inc. (SEZI) is tasked to spearhead the development and growth of solar sites, where power producers can build solar facilities. We see the development of solar energy zones (SEZs) as the first step in addressing the scarcity of suitable lands for large-scale solar projects, which has long hampered the solar industry. The SEZs take inspiration from the ‘solar park’ model already available in other countries including India, one of the top five countries in the world with the largest solar capacity.
Identified Solar Energy Zones
We intend to develop 20,000 hectares of flat, dry, and irradiated land into solar energy zones. These sites are located in Batangas, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Camarines Sur, Quezon, Cebu, and Leyte.
About six hectares from these planned solar zones are expected to be contracted by 2021. The remaining 14,000 hectares will be contracted to locators by 2022.
Once fully converted and developed, these SEZs can accommodate solar farms with a total capacity of 30GWh.
Solar Philippines deployed a 750-strong land acquisition and permitting workforce, over the past six years to secure lease and purchase agreements for these solar energy zones.
